 Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and oversight of Te Rautaki Māori, the Māori Advancement Plan within the Division of Health, and to provide expert advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Health. You will also demonstrate academic leadership through maintaining high standards of excellence in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, administration and in the undertaking of professional/community/iwi service activities.

You will be actively engaging with the University strategy and plans as they pertain to Māori students and staff. You will co-convene the Māori and Pacific Caucus for the Division of Health, and facilitate staff involvement with Te Rautaki Māori, the Māori Advancement Plan at both our Hamilton and Tauranga campuses. The successful candidate will lead, mentor, and strengthen research and teaching in the Division of Health, about, and for Māori perspectives. The Associate Dean Māori role will be a fractional 0.2 FTE on a three-year fixed-term position in addition to a continuing academic appointment at a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor level at 0.8 FTE. At the conclusion of this fixed term Associate Dean position your academic appointment will be full-time. We also welcome applicants who may prefer other FTE arrangements to accommodate their existing clinical, professional or iwi commitments. The salary of for this position will be commensurate with the level of appointment, qualifications, skills and experience.

You possess postgraduate qualification and a research track record in a disciplinary area relevant to Health and have a current academic appointment at the Senior Lecturer level or higher. You thrive in a higher education environment, where you enjoy teaching, postgraduate supervision as well as maintaining and developing original scholarship and research. You have sound knowledge of Te Ao Māori, and familiarity with te reo Māori and tikanga Māori. You possess knowledge of, and have close engagement with, Māori communities and Māori Health organisations, and the capacity to strengthen relationships and collaborations.  You are known for your commitment to supporting and promoting Māori aspirations in health, as well as your strong passion for growing Māori postgraduate and undergraduate students.
