The Regulatory Operations Group's (RO) core functions include licensing, engaging and educating through audits, inspections, investigation and enforcement. ROG ensures Maritime's front-line activity is evidence based, intelligence led and risk focused and MNZ is able to better understand the causes of non-compliance and to effectively deliver on our vision.
Te tūnga | The role
The Chief Advisor Regulatory Operations is a key third tier, reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Regulatory Operations, and working directly with the Regulatory Operations Senior Leadership Team.
The core responsibilities of the Chief Advisor include:
Provide intellectual leadership on regulatory matters
Support the Deputy Chief Executive Regulatory Operations to ensure RO delivers on Maritime NZ's organisational strategy
Provide advice and assurance to Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Maritime NZ Board
Lead and support engagement and influencing activities regarding regulatory operational matters within Maritime NZ, and with other external stakeholders

Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
Proven experience, knowledge and passion for understanding and implementing regulatory excellence, including a track record in improving regulatory practice, systems and processes within organisations
Ability to think strategically and identify themes and issues emerging from a range of competing information and be comfortable working with change and uncertainty
Proven experience providing thought leadership, mentoring and coaching of staff within a team and organisation
Demonstrated situational awareness and organisational and political nous, including the ability to think at a national and system wide level and translate it into future focused deliverables
Significant experience and knowledge of the machinery of Government and the decision making processes including successful experience working in a range of regulatory environments with Chief Executives, Boards, Senior Manager and Ministers

Salary range $161,542 to $197,440+ depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
