Data Scientist – Lumi Drug Scan (Auckland)

We have a full-time permanent opportunity for a Data Scientist to contribute data science and machine learning expertise as part of our Lumi Drug Scan service. The Lumi Drug Scan team are based at our Mount Albert Science Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.
In this role, you’ll undertake data science with a specific focus on applying statistical expertise for the development of machine learning workflows and model development for the Lumi Drug Scan service. You will plan experiments, collect data, perform statistical analysis to study data quality, build models, analyse performance, and report results. The role involves working with other researchers and subject matter experts, drawing on your expertise in data science to prototype new solutions that improve ESR’s impact for our stakeholders and customers.

To be successful in this role, you will have a mix of the following:
A PhD or master’s degree, or equivalent in statistics, data science or a related field.
Previous experience in data science, with a focus on machine learning development in an early-stage industry.
Expertise developing automated machine learning (ML) workflows including data analysis, feature engineering and selection, ML model development, validation, calibration, and testing.
Experience in identifying and applying established statistical methods and techniques to compile, analyse and interpret data.
Experience of operating in a start-up environment or other early-stage projects is advantageous.
Experience in modern computing environments and programming language, including Python, R or Bash.
Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and innovation.
Ability to flexibly adjust to a fast-changing environment
Skills in Azure or Cloud environments and the ability to develop highly efficient software code is beneficial.
