The role | Te tūnga
Reporting to the Unit Manager - Geospatial & Location, as a Design Analyst, you'll be contributing to the unit's workplan to ensure that we are meeting our responsibilities at Stats NZ and collaborating with other areas of Stats NZ and government agencies. You will be providing support to the unit during a busy period and work closely with experienced geospatial & location analysts.
The Geospatial & Location unit manages Stats NZ's geospatial & location technical infrastructure. We provide geospatial & location leadership across Stats NZ. We maintain Stats NZ's geographies, Stats NZ's Geographic data service, the Statistical Location Register, respond to customer queries, and provide advice to the wider Stats NZ as needed. This year, we are also actively contributing to the Representation Commission and Local Governments' Representation Reviews.
This role would suit someone who can bring:
Experience and interest in geospatial & location data.
Experience and interest in Stats NZ's contribution to Representation Reviews and Representation Commissions.
Experience and strong capability performing data analysis using statistical and geospatial applications (such as FME, R, SQL, Python).
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (computer science, statistics, etc.) that has a significant data component or equivalent experience.
Examples of technical leadership, e.g. in decision making, problem solving, or leading a technical project or piece of work.
A passion for innovation and application of conceptual and creative thinking skills to trouble-shoot and to develop or improve statistical designs, systems and processes.
Great team-working skills, personal resilience and the confidence to create strong working relationships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can explain complex concepts in plain English.
Demonstrated customer centricity.
Have familiarity with, or a commitment to learn and understand Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Ao and Te Reo Māori.
Have demonstrated, encouraged or supported diversity and inclusion in or outside of work.
