Are you looking for a challenging position within an environment that will stretch your skills, offer you opportunities for development and growth, and provide personal satisfaction?

Mō te tūnga | About the role

In this varied role as a Grounds Maintenance/Horticulture Instructor, you will be working with and providing direct supervision and practical training to the men in our care within the prison environment. The Grounds and Maintenance (G&M) teams are spread across two zones. Zone one looks after the internal grounds of the facility, and zone two is for the external grounds and surrounding farm area.

The horticulture sector operates on a standard 40-hour workweek, operating between the hours of 0700 and 1600. This aligns with the Department's mission of reintegrating prisoners through constructive educational endeavours.

At Hawkes Bay Regional Prison, our G&M and Horticulture teams main focus is on maintaining the facility's gardens, lawns, and related areas, ensuring their upkeep and aesthetic appeal. Through this nature of work, skills and qualifications in the primary sector are able to be delivered. Community and sustainability projects with local stakeholders and Iwi are also undertaken.

Join us in this rewarding role and make a difference in the lives of those in our care while advancing your own career.

A comprehensive Frontline Introduction into Corrections and extensive initial training is provided for the successful applicant. This will involve onsite training as well as well as residential training at our College just outside of Wellington to focus on the custodial elements of our position.
