He angitūtanga | About the role

We're seeking x2 Ranger Project Lead Treaty Implementation to spearhead the implementation of vital initiatives in collaboration with our Treaty partners. This role isn't just about managing projects; it's about fostering partnerships and ensuring that our conservation efforts align with Treaty obligations and cultural values. 1 role will be based in Tūrangi and the other role based in either Ohakune or Tongariro.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Developing detailed project plans and governance arrangements in collaboration with Treaty partners, utilising SMART objectives and frameworks for monitoring and reporting.

  • Negotiation and contract management, ensuring projects are delivered to required standards, managing risks and issues effectively.

  • Coordinating project teams, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress.

  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi, fostering collaboration and resolving conflicts professionally.

  • Engage with community groups & stakeholders to support conservation outcomes

  • Supporting staff in the region to increase their cultural competency.

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

You will have great communication and engagement skills allowing a heightened sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. You will know how to engage effectively with mana whenua and show a willingness to learn karakia, pepeha and local tikanga to develop your capability in this area, allowing you to work effectively with whānau, hapū, and iwi.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated experience planning, prioritising, allocating and monitoring resources to meet timeframes.

  • Whakawhanaungatanga – an ability to foster and develop relationships with colleagues, public and tangata whenua.

  • Ability to engage and support the aspirations of tangata whenua in relation to conservation and Treaty settlements.

  • Familiarity with Treaty settlement processes and DOC obligations.

  • Strong proficiency in computer systems and databases, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.

  • Proven contract management experience

  • Knowledge of te reo me ona tikanga Māori, supporting cultural understanding and partnership development.

  • Full New Zealand Driver's Licence.

The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement and visitor centre teams.

The Tongariro and Turangi teams are close-knit, look out for one another, and are passionate about the mahi that they do. They are passionate about collaboration and wider team bonding, with great connections with the Biodiversity team (kiwi cuddles, anyone?) and the Heritage & Visitor team (let's get out on the trails!)
