Are you a seasoned advisor with a passion for business planning and performance? Stats NZ is seeking a dynamic Principal Advisor - Planning and Reporting to play a pivotal role in driving the successful delivery of our strategic priorities. This critical position offers the opportunity to lead the development and execution of our annual and long-term business plans, working closely with senior leaders and teams across the organization.
The role | Te tūnga
The Principal Advisor - Planning and Reporting is part of the Prioritisation, Resources, and Delivery Business Group, working alongside Finance, Strategy, and the Enterprise Portfolio Office. You will play a key role in ensuring that enterprise activities are integrated and aligned, driving cohesive management and monitoring to ensure we are delivering on our strategic objectives.
As part of the Planning and Reporting team, you will lead the annual business planning process, ensuring it is fully integrated with our transformation initiatives, core functional strategies, and ongoing activities. You will collaborate with senior leaders, business planning leads, and cross-functional teams to create a robust framework for monitoring and evaluating performance against our multi-year and annual business plans.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide business plans that align with Stats NZ's strategic priorities.
Work closely with Senior Leaders and teams to ensure planning, reporting, and performance measurement are integrated across the organization.
Provide expert advice to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Governance Committees on business planning, performance monitoring, and resource allocation.
Drive continuous improvement in planning and reporting processes to enhance operational efficiency and outcomes.
Coach and develop the Planning and Reporting team, building capability and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.

A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience, with at least 10 years of experience in business planning and performance management.
Expertise in business planning, performance measurement, and evaluation methodologies, with a proven track record of delivering innovative and practical solutions.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex data into compelling stories for diverse audiences.
Proven success in leading and coaching teams, with a collaborative, results-driven approach.
Strong knowledge of the public sector environment in New Zealand, including an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to meeting the needs of Māori communities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and planning software, with a focus on advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
