Senior Education Adviser – Permanent - Commencing End of January 2025

Based in Nelson Office

If you have a passion for improving educational achievement for all learners including Māori and Pacific, and are enthusiastic and committed to building collaborative relationships and open to new ways to do things differently, we could have a role for you.

  • We have a great opportunity for the right person to join our Nelson Marlborough West Coast Team at the Ministry of Education.

  • We will give you the opportunity to work directly with senior leaders, boards of trustees and Communities of Learning to achieve successful educational outcomes for all students, with a particular focus on realising the potential of Māori students and Pasifika students. You must be able to influence others with knowledge, skills and experience in improving student engagement and achievement.

Salary range: $84,425 - $102,271 per annum + 3% kiwi saver.  The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

We are looking for a person who has: 

  • a good understanding of the New Zealand education system and of legislation relevant to education

  • experience, preferably at a leadership level, in Primary or Secondary education, Māori medium, or school governance

  • relationship and stakeholder management experience

  • the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • the ability to partner with others to support and implement change initiatives

  • a relevant tertiary qualification

You will also offer: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

 
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

The successful candidate appointed permanently to the Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast region will be based in the Nelson office. They will join a supportive and performance-driven team environment.
