Position Overview
Join the Massey University Fitness and Recreation Team at Wellington Campus!
The Fitness and Recreation team at Massey University operates a medium-sized gym with 750 members and runs social sports leagues for nine weeks each semester. We’re looking for a full-time (37.5h p/w) team member who is passionate about helping students grow in fitness confidence and build a sense of belonging to Massey.
This role is ideal for a recent graduate, or someone interested in starting a career in the sport, fitness, and recreation industry, with a salary range of $48,596 - $71,027, based on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Sports Leagues: Lead three weekly leagues for 300 students, supported by paid referees.
Wellbeing Programs: Design and implement wellness initiatives throughout the year tailored to student needs.
Collaborative Events: Partner with health and wellbeing teams to organize events like Mental Health Awareness Week, Pink Shirt Day, and stress-free study weeks.
Student Support: Provide individualised fitness guidance through our Green Prescription referral system.
Accommodation Collaboration: Work closely with the accommodation team to deliver valuable services to students.
Group Fitness and Personal Training: Conduct one-on-one and group fitness training sessions in the gym.
Qualifications:
A university degree is required, though it doesn’t have to be in fitness, recreation, or sport. We also welcome applicants with extensive Tikanga Māori experience or degrees in nutrition or media design.
Work Schedule:
Our team operates on a scheduled roster to ensure flexibility for students’ needs. During semester periods, you’ll manage social sports leagues on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. For these 18 weeks each year, your schedule will include working from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm three nights per week, with flexibility on the remaining two days.
