Senior Privacy Advisors - Permanent

2 x Full time, Permanent positions 

Location: National Office, Wellington or other locations for the right person

 

The Ministry of Social Development Information, Security and Identity Group plays a vital role in supporting MSD’s mission and values. As part of MSD’s Organisational Assurance and Communications Group, they offer support and advice across Information Management, Security and Privacy domains. 

 

We have two opportunities for Senior Privacy Advisor roles: one to join our Information Strategy and Assurance function, and the other to join our Information Foundations function. 

 

 

 

What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana

Your role as a Senior Privacy Advisor will provide expert advice and support related to Privacy and Information Sharing. Leveraging your extensive knowledge, you will offer expert guidance on privacy and information sharing, contributing to effective risk management activities. Your approach will be pragmatic, ensuring that advice is both practical and actionable. You will draw on your experience in engaging with the wider business, translating complex technical language into layman's terms. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting junior staff by uplifting their skills through mentoring and coaching.

 

 

 

What you'll need to succeed | Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū 

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Excellent understanding of relevant statutes, rules, and regulations, including compliance obligations under the Public Records Act 2005 and Privacy Act 2020

  • Ability to provide expert advice on information privacy impacts, risks, legislation, and industry good practice.

  • A proven track record of contributing to information assurance and reporting plans and ability to deliver on those plans through analysis and recommendations.

  • Ability to develop policies, frameworks, tools, and training materials to promote a culture of responsible information use.

  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve customer support, education, and information maturity within MSD.

  • Demonstrable understanding of Human Rights and Ethical considerations as it relates to the collection and use of personal information.

  • A willingness to embed Te Ao Māori into MSD's business practices and build capability for engaging with whānau, hapū, and iwi.

 

Ideally you also have (not essential):

  • Experience in working in the Agile environment. 

  • Good understanding of current and emerging technologies, especially those relevant to data protection and privacy such as AI and machine learning, cloud security, Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs).

Salary range: $118,401.00 - $143,797.00
