Job Description

Our Community and Environmental Sustainability strategy guides us towards 2030 and provides a clear pathway for how Z can achieve meaningful social and environmental outcomes in areas that we can have the greatest impact and are most relevant to our business and the communities in which we live and operate in. 

Joining us as our Kaitaki Toitūtanga Sustainability Manager will see you support the implementation of this strategy while spear-heading initiatives that ensure that our Environmental Sustainability Stand is embedded across the organisation with the goal of achieving extraordinary outcomes.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Community, within our Corporate Affairs team, encompassing the Communications, Government Relations, Community and Sustainability functions, you will use your knowledge, passion and influence across Z to drive this mahi and have an opportunity to contribute to an environmentally sustainable Aotearoa New Zealand. You'll be supported by an experienced manager who is passionate and strongly committed to your well-being, growth and development.

You will have the opportunity to

  • Engage collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure the delivery of mahi aligned with the Environmental Sustainability and Community Strategy across the full scope of Z’s business

  • Champion the continued development of culture and capability both within Z and across our suppliers and partners, that sees environmental sustainability as a core consideration of all decisions and actions, with a goal of every person feeling responsible for environmental sustainability at Z

  • Become the subject matter expert for specialist topics in corporate sustainability including Z’s Climate Leaders’ Coalition commitments, relevant government policy, assessing climate and nature related risks and opportunities and sustainability-related financial disclosures

  • Deliver advice on Z’s sustainability performance, drawing on sustainability data and insights while considering our corporate reputation and developments in stakeholder expectations

  • Develop commercial acumen

  • Embrace Te Terenga, our commitment to Te Ao Māori, supported with learning and development to grow your cultural competency

  • Work collaboratively to help achieve results for the Ampol Group

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • 8+ years of professional experience, you might bring this from a background in private or public sector sustainability management, environmental policy, strategy implementation or innovation

  • Tertiary qualified, this could be across environmental science, policy, law or commerce

  • Strong strategic and critical thinking capability

  • A willingness to engage, influence and bring about change across all levels

  • Excellent communications skills, the ability to make complex information simple and craft messaging that resonates with stakeholders to inspire action

  • A love of learning enabling you to absorb new information quickly, evolve and respond effectively to sustainability challenges in the evolving global and domestic context

  • An openness and understanding of Te Ao Māori including Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles

The base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $152,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus 15% STI based on company performance, a 5% KiwiSaver employer contribution and health insurance through Southern Cross.
