Te tūnga | The role 

This is a 9 month fixed term role to provide backfill during the project implementation of the new financial management information system.

As one of our Assistant Accountants, you will be responsible for reviewing the work of the Finance Officers (AP and AR), ensuring an effective system of internal controls is in place. You will manage the processing, reconciling and ensuring the accuracy of Maritime NZ's ledgers including its related entities along with managing all banking requirements.

You will also assist the Financial Accountant(s) in various financial reporting, tax compliance and system matters.

Nōu te rourou | What you bring 

  • Relevant accounting qualifications would be an advantage (Provisional CA)

  • Prior supervision or review experience strongly preferred

  • An understanding of internal and fraud controls

  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills

  • An understanding of best practice accounting and financial practices

  • Tax knowledge in GST, WHT and FBT

  • Experience in the preparation and presentation of financial information

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office and spread sheeting skills

  • Continuous process improvement mindset

  • Commitment to embrace and promote change, systems and process transformation and modern ways of working

  • Positive and collaborative approach to the team and work environment

Salary range $82,979 to $101,419 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.  

The ideal start date is 2nd September 2024, however we will accommodate notice periods as much possible with the successful candidate.
