Pūhoro Charitable Trust is seeking an experienced Events Manager to lead the planning and delivery of national and regional events that support rangatahi Māori on their STEMM journey. This is a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality, culturally grounded experiences that celebrate Māori excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and mātauranga Māori (STEMM).
About Pūhoro Charitable Trust
Pūhoro Charitable Trust is dedicated to increasing Māori participation and success in STEMM. Operating across 13 regions in Aotearoa, we support over 2,000 rangatahi Māori through innovative programmes, strategic partnerships, and cultural empowerment. Our mission is to drive meaningful change in the STEMM landscape, ensuring rangatahi thrive and lead in the sector.
The Role
We are looking for a highly organised, kaupapa-driven Events Manager to take responsibility for the end-to-end coordination and delivery of Pūhoro’s events programme. Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the planning, logistics, and delivery of regional and national events
• Building strong relationships with venues, tertiary providers, presenters, and industry stakeholders
• Coordinating event logistics and staff travel, and leading communications with all event participants
• Collaborating with internal teams to align event planning with wider organisational goals
• Ensuring cultural protocols and values are integrated into all events
• Maintaining event documentation, risk management plans, and post-event reporting to a professional standard
About You
We are seeking an events professional with outstanding organisational and communication skills, who has a deep commitment to kaupapa Māori. Ideal candidates will have:
• At least three years’ experience in event and/or project management
• Strong stakeholder relationship skills across diverse groups
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities
• Proven ability to work independently and under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing circumstances
• Experience working with rangatahi Māori, whānau, iwi, and/or Māori organisations
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to build strong internal relationships
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office systems
• A full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel regionally/nationally, including evenings and weekends as required
• A tertiary qualification in event/project management or a related field (preferred)
Position Details
Location: Auckland, Hamilton, or Wellington (preferred) - we are also interested in hearing from qualified applicants outside of these regions. Reporting to: Manager, Events Contract Type: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) Salary Band: Step 4 ($62,500 - $83,000)
