Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiakiaki Māori Student Engagement Adviser to join the Āwhina - Māori Student Support team on a permanent, full-time basis. This position will be supporting tauira Māori studying in Te Wāhanga Aronui - The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and will be based in the Living Pā. The Āwhina team is a key part of the on-campus support whānau for tauira Māori that encourages cultural confidence and academic success.
Key responsibilities:
Student support and engagement.
Event planning and delivery.
Cultural support.
Teamwork and relationship building.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting Māori students during their educational journey.
You will:
Be comfortable working with Māori students from diverse backgrounds.
Providing one on one support and advice and organising and delivering workshops and events.
Be advocating for Māori student as necessary.
A highly organised, innovative, and self-motivated person.
Have proven experience of collaboration and communication across diverse cohorts.
Be a team player who thrives in a busy environment.
Key requirements:
Sound knowledge of tikanga Māori.
Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in an educational context.
Knowledge of the university or tertiary education environment and issues relating to Māori students.
The ability to build and maintain strong robust relationships.
Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
Ideally have sound knowledge and understanding of te reo Māori and experience working within the tertiary sector.
