We are looking for one 12 month fixed-term Poutoko Ture Matua (Senior Solicitor) with Te Tiriti and machinery of government competency to support Te Puna Rōia (the Legal team) at Te Tai Ōhanga (the Treasury). Any experience in commercial law would be an advantage.

Te Tai Ōhanga is the government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.
Te Puna Rōia (the Legal team) contributes to the Treasury's vision by providing robust and solutions-focused legal advice to effectively manage legal risk and implement projects. The Legal team works closely with policy and operational teams across the department to advise on a range of public and commercial law issues.
The Poutoko Ture Matua (Senior Solicitor) has a strategic level of responsibility in the Te Puna Rōia to provide general legal advice and services for Te Tai Ōhanga.
The work of Te Puna Rōia (the Legal team) is diverse and you will support internal clients on a wide range of issues. The type of work you will typically do includes:
Provision of oral and written advice on various matters, in particular, including:
The activities and statutory obligations of Ministers, the Treasury, Crown-owned companies and Crown entities
The Crown-Māori relationship and its implications for the Treasury's work
Legislation that the Treasury administers
Support the Commercial Performance & Governance functions within the Treasury, including on major projects and transactions
Advising on general contracts and other corporate matters
Assisting on a wide range of legal matters relevant to the mahi of Te Tai Ohanga

Te Puna Rōia work right across Te Tai Ōhanga's work programme on a wide variety of legal issues. We are seeking a Poutoko Ture Matua (Senior Solicitor) with the following experience:
Essential qualifications / experience:
Law degree
Hold, or eligible to hold, a practicing certificate
Experience providing legal advice on complex matters particularly:
Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/ the Treaty of Waitangi
Knowledge working with government processes and machinery of government
Experience advising on administrative decision-making powers
Experience in commercial law would be an advantage
Effective and proactive communication, stakeholder management and collaboration skills
A strong focus on client service, problem-solving and solutions
The ability to play a role coaching and supervising more junior team members (including at times peer reviewing their advice)
Willingness to get involved in a variety of work
Ability to meet the criteria required to hold a NZ Government security clearance
At least five years' experience as a lawyer
