The General Regulatory Operations (GRO) teams support, encourage and require compliance with safety, environmental and health and safety at work regulations.

While undertaking these core activities the GRO teams also increase MNZ's understanding on the causes and drivers of non-compliance, and utilises this information in order to increase the effectiveness of our education, engagement and enforcement efforts.

Te tūnga | The role

As the Manager General Regulatory Operations, you'll be providing leadership and management of a team of 4-6 Maritime Officers in the Auckland Regulatory Operations team. You'll focus on building Maritime Officer capability and a strong and aligned culture to achieve the safe, secure, clean and sustainable outcomes that Maritime New Zealand aims for.

You core responsibilities of the Manager revolve around developing and growing our people, managing the workflows, reporting and budget, and providing day to day leadership, guidance and support to the team. You will also lead the implementation of the operational policy and practice framework within the team, with a strong focus on embedding training and quality assurance. You will manage the work effort of your Maritime Officers achieving a good balance between investigations, MOSS audits, HSWA inspections and external stakeholder engagement and education initiatives.

You will also be responsible for leading the delivery of quality regulatory outcomes for your region, understanding the operators and activities in your region, the key regulatory risks and opportunities, and developing a work programme that effectively targets these.

  • Proven experience and knowledge of front-line regulatory compliance systems, process and delivery in a maritime environment

  • Proven track record of leading and building highly motivated and engaged teams through the creation of a safe trusting and enabling culture, high quality performance management

  • The ability to network effectively in a consultative and collaborative manner, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders both internal and external

  • Proven ability to make risk based decisions

  • Proven experience in contributing to and understanding strategic, analytical and conceptual thinking in a complex environment

  • Demonstrated track record in identifying the need for implementing and improving organisational practice, processes and quality assurance systems

Salary range $136,555 - $166,900 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
