Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a permenant, full-time Manutaki - Director of Governance, Risk and Assurance.

The purpose of this role is to:

  • To provide independent advice to Council, Audit and Risk Committee and the Tumu Whakarae - Vice-Chancellor on governance risk, audit and assurance issues.

  • To lead the University's Governance, Risk and Assurance functions.

  • To develop the enterprise level strategy and plan for Governance, Risk Management and Assurance across the University.

  • To design, implement and manage an integrated, fit for purpose and independent Governance, Risk, Compliance and Assurance function using best practice frameworks.

  • To ensure a proactive approach to risk and compliance management is implemented to uplift performance and ensure a no surprises approach.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

  • You will be a seasoned Risk and Assurance professional with significant experience providing independent strategic risk and assurance advice to the Chairs of Audit Committees, Boards and working with Chairs of Boards or equivalent. You will also have significant experience of providing independent strategic risk and assurance advice to Chief Executives and Senior Leadership Teams.

  • You will have demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of integrated governance, risk, compliance and assurance frameworks in comparable organisations in accordance with professional and international standards, and managed audit partners- external and insourced.

  • You will be a team player that demonstrates the utmost integrity and ethics with the courage to do the right thing under pressure.

Key requirements: 

  • 10 years’ experience of providing independent strategic risk and assurance advice to the Chairs of Audit Committees, Boards and working with Chairs of Boards or equivalent.

  • 10 years’ experience of providing independent strategic risk and assurance advice to Chief Executives and Senior Leadership Teams.

  • 10 years' experience at tier 3 GM or Director level leader in Risk and Assurance in Government or the private sector.

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of integrated governance, risk, compliance and assurance frameworks in comparable organisations in accordance with professional and international standards.

  • Extensive experience of the management and direction setting of co-sourced internal audit partners.

  • Comprehensive risk management and assurance delivery experience in accordance with internal and external auditing standards and international risk management standards.

  • Proven experience in the delivery of high-quality customer focused services.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.

  • Proven experience in working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.
