Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Pūkenga - Lecturer in Sociology. The successful applicant would ideally commence work in February 2025.
Key responsibilities:
Contributing to introductory and upper-level courses across contemporary themes in Sociology and Social Policy. There is also potential to contribute to the Gender and Sexuality Studies minor.
Developing new curricula building on the successful applicant’s expertise.
Supervising MA and PhD research on a broad range of topics in Sociology and Social Policy.
Demonstrating excellence in teaching, a developing research profile, and commitment to public engagement.
Contribute to achieving equity through a commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying Mātauranga Māori to learning and research.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will be a dynamic scholar-teacher who will complement the current staff’s research expertise. Area of research specialisation is open, however expanding the expertise within the programme is a priority. We have a particular interest in the areas of Māori, Pacific, and Indigenous studies/sociology.
Key requirements:
A PhD (or nearly completed) in Sociology or related disciplines such as (but not limited to) Māori studies, Pacific studies, Indigenous studies or Gender, Sexuality, and Queer studies.
Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching related to Sociology and/or Social Policy.
A developing research profile of emerging international standing.
Commitment to public engagement.
