Ko wai maatou? | Who are we?

Oho Mauri was founded in February 2020.  We deliver a 10-week work readiness transitions programme to our most resilient super humans aged 16 to 18 years in the North Waikato region who have experienced vulnerable and at risk life challenges.  Our Programme is underpinned by a deliberate focus on hauora (wellbeing) and cultural identity and weaves in work readiness, soft and life skills, work fitness conditioning and work experience to ensure successful transition of rangatahi into employment, education and or training that is most meaningful to them.

The Programme is deliberately grounded in the principles of cultural identity and hauora (wellbeing) and weaves in work readiness, soft and life skills and work fitness conditioning and work experience.  Rangatahi then transition into meaningful pathways in either education, training and employment backed with three years of pastoral care support.  The Programme supports all aspects of their whare tapa whaa and is underpinned by data insights and tracking to ensure equitable and measurable outcomes for all.

Our offices are based in Raahui Pookeka, Huntly and we are a whaanau of 11 with diverse skill sets who are committed and dedicated rangatahi advocates.

Te whakamahere | What you'll be doing

As Pou Aawhina, you will help awaken the potential of rangatahi by providing guidance and manaaki to ensure they are equipped and supported to travel a path that is most meaningful to them.  You will establish positive relationships with each rangatahi, supporting them to develop life skills and to accomplish specific goals through mana enhancing conversations, and encouraging participation and contribution to the team daily activities.  Walking alongside them and participating in the daily activities of the 10-week Programme is also encouraged and part of the role.

You will work closely with our whaanau to ensure each rangatahi has the support they need, when they need it, to facilitate positive outcomes in terms of their behaviour and thinking.  And to provide awareness of wellbeing, community, educational and economic resources available to rangatahi and their whaanau, and how to access these resources.

Access and attendance to our Programme is important, so you will also be required to transport rangatahi to our Raahui Pookeka, Huntly offices and the location of where the daily activities are being held.
