About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga 

This is a fixed term, full time opportunity to cover parental leave for 6 months. Internal secondments may also be considered. 

Are you passionate about shaping the future of education and ensuring that New Zealand's youngest learners thrive? We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Advisor to join our team. 

As the Senior Advisor, Hautū you’ll be providing direct support to the Hautū – Te Poutāhū (Deputy Secretary – Curriculum Centre) to shape the educational landscape of Aotearoa. You will be a trusted Advisor working across the Curriculum Centre. 

In this role you will: 

  • Coordinate expert advice, including legal and legislative interpretations, to support effective implementation.

  • Provide in-depth analysis and advice to other teams, ensuring integration and coordination across the Ministry.

  • Provide secretariat support to senior committees and governance groups, ensuring smooth meetings, documentation, and follow-up actions.

  • Contribute to governance processes by preparing high-quality papers and reports to support decision-making and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. 

Salary range: $99,496 - $120,690 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake 

We are looking for a seasoned professional with extensive experience and a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks. You should have a proven track record in providing secretariat support to senior governance bodies, ensuring effective communication and seamless coordination. With strong leadership skills, you’ll excel in managing projects, inspiring teams, and building strategic partnerships. 

You will also offer: 

  • A collaborative approach to problem-solving and the ability to navigate complex, cross-sector issues.

  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage projects, inspire teams, and build effective partnerships.

  • The ability to analyse and interpret data, driving decisions that ensure the success of educational programmes.

About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake 

The purpose of Te Poutāhū is to lead the national curricula for Aotearoa New Zealand and associated systems and processes of assessment and aromatawai. 

We design, develop and provide curriculum services for teachers, kaiako, leaders, ākonga, their whānau and communities that reflect their identities, languages and cultures. We bring together curriculum, teaching expertise and evidence for the development, support and review of inclusive curricula, assessment and NCEA. Our strengths are across te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, disability, inclusive learning support and culturally relevant content so that Te Mahau supports learning that is inclusive for all ākonga. 

We support the people who are closest to, and directly serve, ākonga and whānau. We do this through Te Mahau where we connect with the sector, working collaboratively to identify priorities and design local solutions.
