Te tūnga | The role   

Stats NZ is in the process of reimagining how we collect, process and disseminate data to deliver the Census, and other statistical outputs, for the future. We need someone with the experience and intellect to find what industry has to offer, source smartly and work with our suppliers and business owners to maximise performance. 

As Procurement Specialist, you will primarily work with the senior ICT procurement specialist and the Commercial Principle for Future Census and Transformation. You will also support the Digital and corporate team where required and may be asked to acquire shared services for other agencies.  

The role will test both your IQ and EQ as you meet the needs of our Future Census programme and Stats NZ employees across the country. You will need to understand the business needs, work programmes and objectives to lead and/or support ICT, corporate and social procurements. 

The role of Procurement Specialist is within the Commercial Arrangements Branch within the Technology, Operations, Commercial & Collections Group (TOCC). TOCC reports directly to the Chief Executive. Commercial Arrangements is responsible for providing Stats NZ with expert commercial advice and procurement practice for the higher value, higher complexity acquisitions.

  • Hold a tertiary (degree-level or higher) qualification in business, commerce or similar.

  • Have attained eligibility to be recognised as a Certificate Member or Diploma Member (level 4) of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

  • Minimum of two (2) years' work experience as a Procurement and/or Contracts Specialist.

  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills

  • Commercially savvy.

  • Able to professionally present sometimes complex information to a range of audiences.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • An understanding of the machinery of government and government sourcing including All of Government, Common Capability and Syndicated agreements is desirable.

  • Commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori.

  • Comfortable working in both a non-structured and structured way.
