Ko wai au/who are we:
Whakatū Te Korowai Manaakitanga Trust is a dedicated, not-for-profit Charitable Trust serving the vulnerable communities of Whakatu/Nelson, Stoke, and Richmond. We are deeply rooted in the values of the Māori Women’s Welfare League, a Kaupapa Māori service yet also embracing the philosophy of ‘Tatau Tatau’—working collaboratively with all people, regardless of their background. Our mission is to uplift the well-being of Māori and non-Māori whanau by ensuring our services reflect Māori values and tikanga.
The Kaupapa/Position:
As a kaimahi-a-iwi, whanau social worker with Te Korowai Trust, you will play a vital role in providing intensive support to whānau where tamariki and rangatahi face significant risks. Your mahi/work will directly contribute to:
Creating safe, nurturing environments with aroha for Tamariki been connected to their whanau.
Supporting rangatahi at risk of entering the youth justice system.
Advocating for whanau with services they are engaged with and sourcing where they can be referred to, attending appointments as required.
Supporting whanau with Oranga Tamariki process/plans and tasks required to keep Tamariki safe and thriving with their whanau. Attending hui-a-whanau, Family Group conferences, court appearances and connecting them to Legal support.
Ko wai Koe/What You Will Bring:
We’re looking for someone who embodies empathy, resilience, and professionalism and works with the tikanga of whanaungatanga to be able to work in a Māori centred mana enhancing way with whanau.
If you have:
A relevant Social Work degree and current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board.
A valid NZ driver’s license.
Experience in a whanau-based community setting, collaborating with professionals, social workers, and community advocates.
An understanding of social services and a commitment to supporting the diverse realities of Māori tikanga/values.
Strong computer and organizational skills, with a knack for managing multiple tasks effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation.
Indepth understanding of the Tiriti o Waitangi
A willingness to learn Te Reo and Tikanga.
The ability to build meaningful connections with clients from diverse cultures.
Ability to self-reflect and be creative in our social work Kaupapa
