Dau Ni Talitali - Pacific Engagement Manager - Hamilton

The name of the Dau ni Talitali Pacific Engagement Manager has been gifted by the Fijian community. The name refers to a master weaver, in this case, a weaver of people. As the Pacific Engagement Manager, you will be a crucial connection between Pacific learners, their families and communities and learning success, culture and community on campus. The role leads out for the AVC Pacific team on cultural events, connections with high schools, pastoral care, social media and the website. This role works closely with the Student Services, Future Students and Marketing teams. The Dau ni Talitali looks after the Tupaia Challenge'Āiga on CampusImua Initiative, and the FoE High School STEM Navigators program.  You will also work closely with Pacific student associations. 

Salary will be in the range of $82,795 to $94,691 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

As the Pacific Engagement Manager, you will be very familiar with the aspirations and priorities of Pacific people, and have a working knowledge of Pacific, cultures and languages and experience working with Pacific communities.  You will be a strategic thinker with experience in developing strategies, planning and execution.  You will understand the needs of learners, families and communities and be able to work with them in positive and culturally appropriate ways. 

You will have excellent interpersonal communication skills including the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels. You will have the leadership skills to lead a small but crucial team.  Fluency in a Pacific language, previous experience with Pacific organisations, a background in student support, and knowledge of the tertiary education system, particularly university qualifications and administration, are a plus.

To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification or demonstrated work experience in a relevant area, such as education or social work.
