Mātanga Matua Kimi Tangata (Māori)/Senior Recruitment Consultant (Māori) Auckland

Ka pū te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi - when the old net is cast aside, the new net goes fishing

  • Source exceptional talent and support AUT's recruitment Te Tiriti journey

  • Join our internal recruitment team and make huge impact

  • Permanent, full-time position based at AUT's City Campus

Me haere mai ki AUT. As one of the world's top 100 young universities and New Zealand's newest, AUT is a university of opportunity where all students with talent and potential have the chance to succeed. We are a socially-driven university with equity and excellence central to our purpose and actions, and we offer a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to government, business, and industry. AUT has more than 26,000 students and almost 4,000 staff based primarily at our three Auckland teaching campuses.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The University's leadership is genuine in its commitment to Te Tiriti and Tiriti honouring action. People and Culture are working together to embed and enact Te Aronui (AUT's Te Tiriti Framework) in all our activities, and in the workforce priorities of Te Kete (AUT's new strategy to 2030).

We seek a 'new net' - AUT's inaugural Mātanga Matua Kimi Tangata (Māori)/Senior Recruitment Consultant (Māori) to join our hard-working and successful internal recruitment team.

Key focus areas include:

  • Partner with AUT managers to provide exceptional end-to-end recruitment support, with particular focus on the recruitment of Māori staff.

  • Provide support embedding Te Aronui in AUT's recruitment processes and systems. Review existing recruitment procedures and where necessary, recommend, develop and help embed new policy and practice to enable a mana-enhancing recruitment experience for tangata whenua.

  • Help position AUT as the University of choice for Māori talent in the tertiary education sector. Grow and nurture channels and methods for attracting Kaimahi Māori to AUT.

  • Build cultural capability within recruitment team.

This position reports into the Recruitment Operations Manager, whilst also having a 'dotted' line to People & Culture's Kaiurungi.

We're looking for a passionate and seasoned recruiter, ideally with internal experience appointing great people at mid-to-senior levels in another large organisation.  You'll love tracking down candidates with hard-to-find skill sets, both here and overseas.  You are a great relationship builder who can deal with changing requirements and thrive on partnering with hiring managers and meeting their needs.

Your Te ao Māori lived experience, working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and proficiency in te reo Māori, along with an understanding of equity and diversity issues, especially in relation to Māori staff, will be key. You will naturally enable 'safe spaces' for our team and hiring managers to explore, learn, make mistakes and ask questions as staff embark on their Te Tiriti journeys. You will have a strong respect for others coupled with an open and engaging attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. A resolute, robust and positive attitude is essential.

Please see the detailed position description for more information on key job accountabilities.
