Te Toi Mahana has been operational since 1 August 2023, supporting the long-term provision of social and affordable housing in Wellington. Our organisation represents an exciting change and an opportunity to transform Wellington’s social housing landscape.
Operating as an independent, charitable community housing trust, Te Toi Mahana is a growing entity of scale, providing housing and tenancy services for 3,200 tenants and managing a portfolio of nearly 2,000 Wellington City Council-owned properties with annual revenues of approximately $30 million.
Te Toi Mahana aims to improve the wellbeing of current and future social housing tenants through warm, dry, safe housing and high-quality tenancy services, add much-needed housing in Wellington, and create partnerships in housing development and delivery.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
A deep commitment to the wellbeing of the tenants, whānau and communities that Te Toi Mahana will serve.
Heart and empathy, with the ability to do core business tasks such as managing rental debt, anti-social behaviour, and property inspections.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to weave this into your mahi to reduce inequity for Māori
The ability to embrace and work alongside our tenant community who are from over 70 countries
At least 2 years’ Tenancy Management experience, in the Community or Social Housing sector.
An understanding of the drivers of our housing crisis in Aotearoa
A full driver's licence (or ability to obtain one within 3 months of starting)
Right to work in Aotearoa/New Zealand

We have a highly engaged, diverse and successful team of around 40 people, who are all on the same kaupapa and work together as a housing whānau. We offer competitive salaries, flexible working (mixture of onsite, office, home), 5 weeks annual leave and development opportunities. We are a safe space for our kaimahi and are always looking to recruit staff that reflect the community we serve.
Our proposed recruitment timeline is as follows:
20th November – job advertisement goes live.
1St December – job advertisement closes.
3rd December – successful candidates are invited to an assessment centre.
5th December – group assessment centre held.
6th December - successful candidates invited to interview.
10th – 11th December – interviews take place.
12th December – offers made to successful candidates.
3rd February – potential start date
